Well that was fun!

That was a great long weekend. I hope you had some good adventures as well. Saturday I had a nice bike ride from Goose Creek to Bath (oldest incorporated town in NC) and a super cast iron cooked jambalaya for dinner. Definitely going to have to do more cast iron cooking. but more on cooking in later posts. Then a semi early bed time as I was up early Sunday morning for golf on the Outer Banks. Yeah, I got a call from a friend…

Favorite time…

I am sure that everyone has their favorite time camping. Mine is the morning. As much as I like staring into the camp fire I have come to look forward to mornings. Camping switches you to sun time (especially winter camping) and so mostly 10:00 is a pretty late night. Early mornings just seem to come so much easier and more natural.  And I like the fact that the things of living just take longer. No microwaves or fridges. Start a fire, make coffee, be…

So I’m gonna try a Meetup…

OK, so I am a little late to the Memorial Day weekend planning party. A check of the PocketRanger app showed that there was not a camp site to be had within a reasonable driving distance. Apparently people plan ahead for this? So what is a poor boy to do? Then I ran across an email from a local Meetup group. They had three camp sites in a nice park and spaces still available. So I sent in my reservation. Now I am off to…

Adventures in music…

I can’t exactly remember how, but I think maybe it had to do with an episode of World Cafe… At any rate I downloaded the album and have been happily listening.  Then last Wednesday I was driving around and heard an announcement on the local public radio station that they would be at the Beaufort Music Festival on Friday evening. And,…

Different can be better

Sometimes adventure is in looking at the same thing in a different way. And so I participated in last weekend’s Flying Pirate ½ from the finishing shoot.  After running a number of races and finally getting up the courage for a half marathon I thought that it would be fun to see how it is from the other side. And it is a lot of fun. So the weekend started off with a nice social 22.5 mile bike ride at the Kinston BBQ festival (which…

Adventures of the volunteering kind…

So for the sake of seeing something from the other side, this weekend I am off to volunteer for the Flying Pirate 1/2 marathon.  Gonna see what it is like to be on the sidelines for once. And also that means a night of camping on the Outer Banks so it is a win/win. And while I am on that subject, what’s up with all the campgrounds not taking reservations? I may end up with a tent on the roadside.  See… adventure abounds…
